The Distribution Map page

The results of your search are displayed on the Web Maps Distribution Map:

The following table describes components and functionality of the Distribution Map page:

Control / Functionality

Description

Zoom in / Out

Zoom in / out

Click either button and click the map. The map will zoom in / out around the point clicked.

Alternatively, to zoom in to a particular area:

  1. Click the Zoom in button.
  2. Click the map at what will be the top left corner of the desired area.
  3. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse, drawing a square / rectangle around the required area.
  4. Release the left mouse button when the required area is selected.

    The Map will refresh, zoomed in on the selected area.

Pan

Pan

To pan the map in a horizontal or vertical direction:

  1. Click the Pan button.
  2. Click the edge of the map toward which you wish to pan.

    The Map will pan in the direction of your selection.

Query

Query Specimens

To query specimens :

  1. Click the Query Specimens button.
  2. Click the map at what will be the top left corner of the desired area.
  3. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse, drawing a square / rectangle around the specimens to be queried.
  4. Release the left mouse button when the required area is selected.

    The Search Results page will display with summary details about each of the specimens selected. Select a specimen link to display more detailed information about a specimen.

Refresh

Refresh

After selecting check boxes and/or radio buttons in the right hand panel, click the Refresh button to apply your changes.

Refresh Map

Reset Map

Click First to reset the map to the default settings.

New Search

Click New Search to return to the Search page.

Show by

To display one of the options as a label for each specimen marker on the Distribution Map:

  1. Select a radio button to specify what information will display as a label.
  2. Ensure that the Show radio button for Label Points is selected.
  3. Click the Refresh Refresh button to apply your selection.

Label Points

  1. Select the Show / Hide radio button to display or conceal labels for each specimen marker on the Distribution Map.
  2. Click the Refresh Refresh button to apply your selection.

Layer Labels

  1. Click the Show / Hide radio button to display or conceal labels for each Map Layer selected.
  2. Click the Refresh Refresh button to apply your selection.

Map Layers

  1. Select a check box to turn on / off the layer.
  2. Click the Refresh Refresh button to apply your selection.

Note: The look and feel, maps used and layers available are all configurable.
